LINKING MONUMENTS

I am vaatika, a student from Design Academy Eindhoven, researching over temporality of monuments. The Dutch railways is sponsoring the students to create a temporary monument for the city of Eindhoven, while the station is under construction. The main emphasis is on connecting the travelers back to the city. We are also looking into the identity of the city as well.

Concept Two: Lines as basic element that makes connections. The idea is to abstract the elements and activities we that make our process, and use them as elements for the visual language.

Concept One: WORD SEARCH

The two main keywords I had in mind were Hidden and Connections. These two words flashed the image of a word search grid which has hidden letters and one makes connections by physically marking them. The grid represents something structured and fixed which is in contrast to our dynamic activity filled process, hence something needs to be changed.

Suitcases represent traveling since ages. A suitcase is also seen as a box that will unravel the fun, stoories and adventure brought back from the trip as souvenirs and strange objects. This video represents the concept of hidden treasures of a city that the travelers could see on the station.

Eindhoven through locals

vaatika:

Found a pintrest wall on eindhoven. Interesting to see many different websites, but seems that for many locals the most cliche places and ‘monuments’ describe Eindhoven. Many also associate well with objects that they find during various art/design/cultural shows and exhibitions.

vaatika:

Manel chowk: A bazar area which is a vegetable market in morning, a jewelry and cloth/apparel market by day and street food space by evening.

Temporality vs Permanence

What is the difference between the function of a temporary monument or a permanent one? How will a line across few streets showing places in a fresh perspective serve any different purpose?
